K I've just about exhausted myself looking for hearse coach lamps, and landau bars. Any one know a place in California or thereabouts where I can get used or even new if need be acoutramonts for hearses?

This years Burning Man project is my RV to be a hearse custom. Its being made from a chevy winnebago. Aptly its being named after or kinda like my trailer which was an Aristocrat which I called the Aristocrypt. The RV will be called the Cryptobago.

Thank You All! from WLHP

November 01, 2005

Well, the World's Longest Hearse Procession is finally over. Participants came from around the country and as far away as Canada to be a part of automotive history.

Thousands literally crowded Wilshire Boulevard as a mile long hearse procession made it's way on a 2.5 mile trek to capture the Guinness World Record for the World's Longest Hearse Procession.

Although we're still tallying the results, the number is very likely in the mid to high seventies. We're still recuperating from the years worth of preparation it took and most of us on the event staff were up for three days straight just to make sure everything came off without a hitch.

AArtVark, Lou, Bryan, Heather and Dave want to thank everybody who showed their support from Phantom Coaches, Professional Car Society, Vintage Hearse Association, Grim Rides, Dead Heat Hearse Club and many more who raised the bar in pride of hearse ownership.

High points included:

Maila (Vampira) Nurmi charming everyone who met this amazingly gracious icon, sitting for hours chatting with all, signing autographs (many for free) and enjoying all the genuine warmth and love she was given by horror fans, hearse drivers and folks who just came to meet her.

John Koresko in a suit!

James Crabtree who gave a most memorable lecture on Friday on the history of the mortised hearse. The lecture was so inspirational that anyone who didn't want to be a hearse owner after hearing it would of had to been dead.

Valhalla Cemetery, who not only sponsored the event as Dignity Memorial, but who brought four of their own hearses and stuffed the event bags with amazing swag like pens, key chains, lotions, and even videotapes on "Dealing with your Loss"! Not just corporate suits, these guys really delivered the goods for everybody!

Otto Baron and Pat Fish, who brought their 59's!

Jeff Perrin, who washed and waxed his awesome 1960 Eureka to it's former glory.

Chuck and Debbie Pierce, who again set the standard for hearse ownership by bringing five coaches and even changing out an alternator at 11:00 pm the night before just so the Canadian Broadcasting Company could film a demo of a three way loader.

The guy who drove the "Deadmonkey" hearse, who we threw out on Friday because of expired tags, no insurance and doing burnouts at the Petersen. Breaking every rule, he made it easy for us to give him the boot so the rest of you could have the classiest hearse show ever.

The Ghastly Ones and the CoffinDraggers, who know how to rock Halloween! (The DeadBilly's broke up two days before the event, but we wish them well. You can still hear their great music on the free CD sampler that that was in the event bag.)

All the volunteers, especially Josh, who put in unseen and unpaid hours so that we could all have a smooth running show.

All of YOU, who happily paid to support the cost of the show, who didn't bitch about filling your gas tanks, who followed the rules for safety, who washed their cars and looked their best, who contributed to the Guinness World Record and who helped put on the very best hearse show the world has ever seen. This success belongs to all of us and we all share in the satisfaction of knowing that we all raised the standard this Halloween weekend.

You have all set the Guinness World Record for the World's Longest Hearse Procession and have shown the hearse world that you are the best of the best. We salute you!

10.29.2005 - World's Longest Hearse Procession

Have a look and come on down!

http://www.hearseprocession.com/

It has been long established that the West Coast has the largest concentration of professional cars in the country. By definition, a professional car is a funeral car, ambulance, or combination coach built on passenger or commercial car chassis. Specifically, a funeral car or hearse is described as a custom-bodied vehicle designed and built to accommodate a casket.

California is home to some of the largest professional car related organizations in the U.S. Although there have been a few attempts made in the past to capture records in funeral car-related events, this will be the first time that a Guinness World Record will be officially attempted in the field of professional cars. Taking into account the number of funeral cars on the West Coast, not only do we intend to achieve the Guinness World Record, but we expect to have 200 funeral cars on display and participating in this history-making event.

The World’s Longest Hearse Procession is being held on October 29th in Los Angeles. Funeral car enthusiasts from all over America will be converging at the Petersen Automotive Museum this fall to be a part of this momentous occasion. Make plans now to bring your hearse and share in this milestone achievement.

Hydramatic transmission shifting problem?

I have a 1961 Cadillac Eureka hearse with a hydramatic transmission and a double barrelled carbuerator, and when I got the car, the kickdown rod or t.v. rod was missing, so my mechanic fabricated one, but there is still the problem of the car having problems shifting when it is supposed to. We have adjusted the tension on the cable, which helped things but did not make things perfect. When the engine seems to be working too hard, I let off the gas pedal for a sec, then gas it again and the transmission usually will then shift. Anyone have any ideas on what could be the root of this or what could help? I have a master mechanic working on this, but he hasn't worked on cadillacs in years, and this is his first hearse. The engine is a pretty basic 390. Also, just curious what speed other hearse people usually drive on the freeway. Since it is a '61, i feel as if i should baby it, but then, the speedometer goes up pretty high. (on my husband's 1968 bmw we never drive faster than 70 mph on the freeway even though it has a racing engine in it.) Any ideas or assistance appreciated.

Reasons why hearses are unique from other automobiles

I have noticed several things on my hearse, anyways, which is a Cadillac, that are different from most other cars i have had.

The seats are bolted in from the under side of the car

The oil pressure on Caddys is typically lower when normal

The gas mileage - we all know about that!

The gas pump is near the gas tank at the rear of the car instead of under the hood

As this is my first hearse, I am just amazed everytime I discover things like this.

Anyone else care to share their unique hearse facts/attributes/quirks?

tacky white hearses

ok, ok, I know I own a white hearse myself.....not my first choice of colors to say the least.

but that's cause it came that way....
and a GOOD black paint job for a car that size is........
well, more money than I'll have for a long while.

but damn, everywhere I go, I see white hearses.

and damn, unless it had flames or something, I'd come back and torture the M/F that sent me off to my final resting place in a WHITE hearse.

I just think it's tacky.

but I have seen worse colors. there is a man in this state who's pride and joy is a METAL FLAKE GOLD 59'. makes me cry...:'(

also, anyone have oppinions of the newer caddys?
personally, i think the body style is VERY unsuited to being chopped and stretched. I much prefer the look of the new lincoln coaches, to me they just look more dignified.

but yeah...new hearses in general just make me wanna be cremated.

OK…Here is a something for the hearse owners –I mean those of you that still have their coaches… Now that you have obtained the 21 some odd foot car of your dreams, and car shows and hearse clubs have lost their appeal, just what do you do with it??? Just curious -since I see a few lingering about my area once in a blue moon:-)

I started this tribe because I saw that there was no tribe specificly for hearse fans...........so now there is. hopefully , this will grow, and eventually it will become a place to exchange info about parts, shows, pictures and websites. so far, the best place for hearse fans that I've found so far is http://www.geocities.com/grimrides/, they even have a classified section.
